HipHopIsRead's Rap Roundtable is a weekly must-read for hip hop scholarship
I happen to be in it this week (of course, dahhhling please, don’t be silly) but I’m really just excited to be in the company of so much smart hip hop content.
I honestly believe this is where a lot of the upside for this country lies. Hip hop’s DNA crosses socio-economic lines, and as we try and figure out what to do now, and where we need new models for success such that we can eat bon bons but not from the mouths of haitian babies (or suffer the risk of oil spills from transporting the bon bons), i suspect the burgeoning hip hop generation’s comfort level with their own individual values separate from those entrenched by American institutionalism (education from The Man, to work for The Man, to bail out The Man, etc) will have a lot of to offer.
and since we grew up bored-to-death by old whestern rhetoric and style tropes, it should actually be fresh/interesting to read. at least relative to other healthy vegetable-type products. imagine nerds in America getting the balls to be like ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED, BY THIS DISPLAY OF INTELLIGENCE?!!!?! …word
