KRS-ONE, Hip Hop vs. Rap
“flame on. i know the light is bright, but keep on watching me…”
while watching Tom Hardy kick The Teacher’s lyrics in this video going around (embed below) I was wondering if this is personal interpolation, or if he was just spacing on the lyrics. the song is old enough (“in ‘94, i’m quick to hit”) that it’s an impressive look regardless. bane gets forever street-cred on this one. but his ability to take on KRS’s distinct chatting-rapping style indicates more than a casual familiarity. Mr Hardy may well have a few ciphers under his belt.
of course this is also a good sign that KRS1 remains a strong buy-and-hold cultural investment
